Everyone is Aflutter and Abuzz about our Hummingbird Garden Party held on Saturday Aug 13th. Over 200 smiling visitors watched more than 50 Monarch butterflies being released throughout the day! Guests had the chance to take pictures as these beautiful flying insects sat on their fingers, shoulders or in some cases noses before they flew off into the gardens at the marsh.
Not only were attendees amazed by butterflies, the hummingbirds also dropped in for a visit in all their sparkling glory! Six of these garden jewels were banded and released. Several even sat patiently in the hands of a visitors before joining their butterfly friends in the garden which was so lovingly nurtured by marsh gardener Deb Murray.
Other activities included songbird banding, frog and aquatic insect explorations, face painting and kid’s crafts and displays by local businesses and artists. To give the day an added splash of class, guests were treated to baking, tea, and lemonade fit for any garden party affair! If you did not make it to this year’s event, put it on your Calendar for next August!
