On Saturday August 12th we hosted our 4th Annual Hummingbird Garden Party. Over the past couple of years, this event has massively grown in popularity for one simple reason, everybody’s favorite garden visitor and star of the show- the Ruby Throated Hummingbird.
The day started off threatening rain, but Mother Nature must have wanted the opportunity to join in the festivities, as she held back the raindrops until the last visitor had left the marsh.
Visitors had the opportunity to see hummingbirds up close as they were banded and released back into the beautiful marsh gardens to feed. Along with hummingbirds, many other bird species were banded while guests observed the banding process. Marsh enthusiasts had the additional treat of releasing Monarch butterflies that were supplied by Heather Willett of “Butterfly Kisses”. Heather did an amazing job of educating anyone with an interest about the importance of Monarch conservation and the incredible migration story of this spectacular insect. As if this were not enough to dazzle our visitors, guests were also able to tour our marsh gardens, walk the new marsh trails, dip for critters in the ponds, nibble on homemade baking, sip tea or lemonade, create a craft, and get their face painted!
If you have not yet had the pleasure of attending this event, we highly recommend you mark your calendars for next August, 18th. Looking forward to seeing you there!
